Abstract:
Bartolomeo Valdrighi was a brillant jurist active in Modena during the XVIII century. The ambitious ducal functionary was able to gain Francesco the Third’s trust. At first, he seemed to be bound to a fast flourishing career but this was prevented from his haughtiness. Since 1767, he was appointed professor of Ius publicum, after having learned public law pillars in Leipzig. Valdrighi’s name is linked primarily to the Codice estense and to the reform of University of Modena. His enviable career sudden waned in 1779. He took refuge in Genoa where he was auditor of the criminal Rota. Despite of his talent and strong willpower, Valdrighi couldn’t achieve a tenure in Genoa, therefore he gave up any academic ambition.
