Cristiani senza pace. La Chiesa, gli eretici e la guerra nella Roma del Cinquecento.

Book
Publication Date:
2012
Short description:
Cristiani senza pace. La Chiesa, gli eretici e la guerra nella Roma del Cinquecento / Catto, Michela. - (2012).
abstract:
A few years after the conclusion of the Council of Trent, in 1567 Marcantonio Da Mula, a learned Venetian cardinal, asked a number of questions that became the centre of a discussion among many participants: Why were there no religious conflicts in the pagan world? Why was Christianity the only religion it had persecuted? And why, far from establishing a kingdom of peace and brotherhood, Christianity had a history of division, confrontation, bloody wars? The answers to Da Mula’s questions remained unpublished (except Fabio Benvoglienti’s, published in 1570 and then put to the Index 10 years later), but circulated as manuscripts in Europe.
