Verso la valorizzazione di Bergamo s-Low: un sistema di mapping tridimensionale del verde urbano

This chapter, after an international overview on the meaning of urban green and a description of its tourism potential in Bergamo, presents the mapping of green areas elaborated by the team of Diathesis Cartographic Lab for the conference “Bergamo s-Low: Agri and Green Spaces in the City” and proposes the possibility to create a three-dimensional and interactive mapping system in order to promote the development of the greenparkland spaces as a tourist resource. The map of green, based on Google Earth, shows the distribution of two types of green within the city of Bergamo: the public green, with parks and gardens, and the historical agricultural green, which includes agricultural areas and urban gardens, lawns, grazing lands and woods. This map highlights the “green” vocation of Bergamo, witnessed not only by the presence of Colli di Bergamo Park (Parco dei Colli di Bergamo), one of the first urban parks in Italy, but also by the existence of widespread natural spaces with different functions, for leisure, as gardens, but also the recovery of traditional farming practices, such as urban gardens. Today, this Heritage may constitute the element on which it is possible to intervene in order to plan s-Low tourism, which promotes a territorial regeneration based on the valorization of territorial resources little known at an international level.
