The Chapter focuses on the practice relating to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) operations that raise the most interesting and at the same time challenging issues from the viewpoint of the legal regime on the use of force, namely the campaign conducted in Liberia from August 1990 to the general elections of July 1997 and the intervention carried out in Sierra Leone from the military coup of May 1997 to the return of power, in March 1998, of the democratically elected President.
