Lately, a deep reflection is ongoing, about the role that institutional intervention policies should play to better respond to the new, and someway dramatic, needs caused by the ever growing state of contemporary economy as an economy strongly characterised as “knowledge” based. Today completely globalised dimensions of dynamic economies urge more and more to consider innovation as the real determining factor on which any nation’s competitive ability should be founded. And this competitive ability seems more and more structurally assured by such an innovation which could see in scientific research its fundamental engine, its characterizing element.
