Public finances in Italy Public Finance in Italy is an annual report initially launched in 1994 with the aim of providing
a review of the key developments that occur year by year in the area of public finance in Italy. The 2021 report evaluates the main policy measures implemented by the Italian government during 2021, regarding budgetary policy, health
care, pensions, social assistance, education, infrastructure investment and the European Recovery Plan. All the papers
included in this report provide a detailed overview of the main innovations that have characterized the Italian public
budget during 2021, a year that, despite the insistence of the Covid-19 pandemic, has witnessed a significant rebound in
economic activity compared to that previous one. The special chapters of this year are devoted to in-depth analysis of topics of particular relevance or continuous interest, such as public health’s commitment to prevention, tax expenditures associated with the personal income taxation and fiscal federalism concerning provinces and metropolitan cities.
