AN ASSESSMENT OF THE NUMERICAL SOLUTION OF THEELASTOHYDRODYNAMIC PROBLEM FOR SOFT CONTACTS

A method is presented which enables the determination of closed form solutions for the ~lastohydrodyn~ic problem which can be used as test cases. The possible outcome of spurious undulations in the numerical description of the fluid film profile is rationalized. A numerical procedure which can placate the outcome of spurious oscillations in the film curve is illustrated.Such tools are applied to the analysis of cases of practical relevance partially derived from published experimental data.
