In 1974 the XIV Congress of the International Naturist Federation defined naturism as “a lifestyle in harmony with nature, expressed through social nudity, and characterized by self-respect of people with different opinions and of the environment.” What is currently called the naturist movement is largely commercialized, lacks a clear political stance, and is principally aimed at practicing, advocating, and defending social nudity in private and public spaces, as well as promoting harmony with nature through yoga, physical exercise, healthy food, and abstinence from or moderate use of alcohol, meat, tobacco, and drugs.
