Biography.
Roberto Vezzani was born in Correggio (RE), Italy, in 1977. He graduated in Computer Engineering in 2002 and received his PhD course in Information Engineering in 2007 at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy.
From 2008 to 2016 he has been Assistant Professor in the field of Computer Science (INF/01).
Since 2016 is Associate Professor in the field of Information Enigeering (ING-INF/05) at the Dipartimento di Ingegneria "Enzo Ferrari" of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
From 2018 to 2021 he was Director of the Artificial Intelligence Research and Innovation Center of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.


Research Activity.
His research topics mainly belong to computer vision and pattern recognition for HumanComputer Interaction, IoT, automatic video surveillance, with particular focus on motion detection, tracking, action classification and automatic annotation of videos. Among the others, he mainly addresses algorithms and systems based on depth, event, thermal cameras, and their integration with conventional cameras and other sensors.
Senior member of the AimageLab research group since 2003 (https://aimagelab.ing.unimore.it), Roberto Vezzani coordinates the research unit for basic and applied research projects. In in particular, he deals with artificial vision for human-machine interaction, using RGB sensors, depth and thermal. The AimageLab laboratory and specifically Roberto Vezzani is part of several national and international collaborations.
Since 2019 he has been selected as a Member of the ELLIS society.

[2021 – 2024] Scientific coordinator of the project commissioned by Toyota Motors Europe for the study of human pose estimation techniques in the industrial field. The funding also includes a threeyear scholarship for the doctoral school.
[2020 – 2021] Responsible of the Research project funded by Ferrari Spa for the use of in-car cameras to estimate the alertness status of the driver.
[2019 – 2020] Responsible of the Research project on "Studio di anomalie nell’ambito del progetto EPIDETECT" funded by MAPS group S.p.A for the study of anomalies in medical prescriptions using artificial intelligence techniques in order to identify situations of interest in the fight against epidemics and in particular Covid19
