Academic Career: Degree in Physics cum laude at University of Modena in 1994; PhD in “Materials and Information Engineering”, X cycle 1994-97; period 1997-1999 Collaboration and research contracts with Istituto Nazionale per la Fisica della Materia (INFM); period 1999-2004 Assegno di ricerca in physics at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia; 2005-2014 University researcher (SSD FIS/01) at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia; 2014 Associate professor in Experimental Physics (SSD FIS/01) ) at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia; 2024 Full Professor of Experimental Physics of Matter (SSD PHYS-03/A).
Responsible of the Laboratory of materials and surface physics of the Dept. of Engineering E. Ferrari of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. Senior collaborator of the BEAR beamline at Elettra (Trieste). Responsible of international projects and commercial contracts. Visiting scientist at different international institutions.
Scientific activity: surface electronic properties of semiconductors and metals. Atomic geometry and electronic structure of metal-semiconductor interfaces. Magnetic properties of stratified media (core levels dichroic absorption). Use of synchrotron radiation for structural and spectroscopic studies (photoemission, optical absorption – S/EXAFS, NEXAFS, photoelectron diffraction – PED). Laboratory techniques of sample preparation and growth, spectroscopic characterization including photoemission (XPS, UPS), electron energy loss (EELS), Auger, Metastable deexcitation spectroscopy.
