C4SI aims to improve the level of cybersecurity of production plants and connected machinery, with attention to the needs and peculiarities of small and medium-sized manufacturing companies in the Emilia-Romagna region. This goal will be achieved through two lines of action. The first concerns the increase in awareness and training of SMEs about the provisions contained in the new "Machinery Regulation" of the European Union. Unlike current regulations, the regulation mandates compliance requirements for the cybersecurity of devices and machinery, and will come into force in all Member States, effectively preventing companies that are unable to comply from accessing the market. The second objective is the design and prototypical development of innovative solutions that apply some of the best practices that are now universally recognized in the field of Information Technology (IT) to the context of Operational Technology (OT). C4SI will focus on the Zero Trust paradigm, authentication and access control methodologies, and solutions for monitoring the security of operator activities. These solutions will simplify the application of the new Machinery Regulation.
