“Phthalates exposure, growth and neurodevelopment in pre-school children”

Project
Phthalates are widely used non-persistent chemicals as plasticizers with endocrine disrupting activity. Even though they are subject to regulation they are still omnipresent pollutants and human exposure, especially in the pediatric age, can influence them physiological processes such as growth and neurodevelopment. Neurodevelopmental disorders emerge early in childhood and are clearly increasing, so much so that an etiological link has been hypothesized between exposure to environmental pollutants and neurodevelopmental disorders. That is the objective of our study to evaluate exposure to phthalates, dosed in urine, in a sample of children from Modena aged pre-school and to evaluate their exposure risk to phthalates. These data will then be related to the auxological parameters and neuro-developmental characteristics through ad hoc assessments
