The SECURE-BESS (Hybrid Digital-Twin Enabled Off-Grid Storage for Critical
Infrastructures) project aims to develop innovative off-grid energy storage solutions
for critical infrastructures, such as hospitals, data centers, transport hubs, and utilities, leveraging
renewable sources. The project is structured around three main pillars: the use of digital twins for hybrid systems,
the integration of modular and innovative BESS energy storage systems, and cybersecurity
by design. The team includes industrial partners such as SITE, Geminiani SPA, and
InfoSystem, with a strong focus on scalable, modular, and replicable solutions across Europe.
Demo sites are planned in Emilia-Romagna to validate the developed solutions.
The H2MORE Center at UNIMORE, led by Professor Davide Barater, is key to the project, with
Professor Barater serving as principal investigator. The center contributes primarily to
the development and implementation of the digital twin model for hybrid systems, with a particular
focus on the optimization of energy storage systems and the simulation of critical scenarios.
Furthermore, the MeltingLab of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, together with other regional
labs, will actively participate in the development of solutions for energy resilience and the
green transition.
