Abstract:
The interest for the studi of Anatomy in Modena was particularly developed since the secon half of the eighteenth century when the Duke Francesco III of Este promoted the reformetion of the University and Antonio Scarpa wan called to teach Anatomy from Padua to Modena. Scarpa promoted the building of the Anatomical Theatre near the Grande Spedale that was inaugurated il 1776. Inthe same year the School of Obstetrics opened and determined tha constitution of a first Cabinet of Obstetric in a room next the Theater. . After the Restoration between 1817 and 1818 the Archiduke Francesco IV of Austria Este promoted the realization of an Anatomical Museum. It was organized a room in a new floor built on the Teatre. Two more room was added in 1839 and a fouth one il 1853 under the direction of Paolo Gaddi. Furthermore Gaddi's interest for ethnopgaphic studies determined the opened of the Etnographic Anthropological Museum in 1866.
