Abstract:
BV, a 63 y.o. man was hospitalized in our Department because of a loss of consciousness associated to abdominal
pain lasted 30 minutes. He was affected by amyloidosis, chronic renal impairment, diabetes. The biohumoral
exams showed an important anemia (Hb 8 gr/dl).
The abdomen X Ray was negative for intestinal occlusion; the ultrasound made in the Emergency Department did
not show free fluid in the abdomen
The abdomen CT made some hours later showed an hemoperitoneum and a disomogeneus spleen.
The patient was valueted by the surgeon ad a spleenectomy was performed. The spleen was as big as a watermelon
with a big haematoma
During the operation, for hypotension, 8 units of red blood cells were infused to the patient.
He was transferred in the ICU for 48 hours after the operation and he was discharged from the hospital after 8
days in good health
