European Monetary Union: Issues in Supervision

The aim of this chapter is to evaluate the implications of the achievement of EMU for the supervisory function. The basic question which must be answered is whether the supervisory function, as it is now taking shape, will be capable of achieving the objectives it has traditionally set itself of assuring the stability of financial intermediaries and safeguarding investors/costumers in the financial context of the EU, or in which areas further measures are advisable.
