Abstract:
Elbow fractures represent a difficult challenge for the orthopedic surgeon due to the anatomical complexity of the joint and the outcomes of severe disability if not properly treated. Specifically, we can divide the fractures of the elbow into fractures of the distal extremity of the humerus, fractures of the head of the radius, fractures of the olecranum and coronoid process of the ulna and associated fractures that very often accompany the dislocation of the bony segments. In this comprehensive review we analyzed each type of fracture and ligamentous injury in its traumatic mechanisms and anatomical specificity, the different treatment options, and the principles of postoperative rehabilitation.
