COGD V: The General Councils of the Eastern Christian Churches

Corpus Christianorum. Conciliorum Oecumenicorum Generaliumque Decreta (CCCOGD) focuses on what has been decreed in different forms by those church councils recognised as ecumenical by one or more churches, by general councils of the churches of one or more traditions, as well as by councils which have a greater importance in the history of the individual churches. Volume 5 (ed. A. Melloni, with the collaboration of E. Ishac) turns its attention to the general councils of the Eastern Christian Churches. The selection of the decisions of the Synods of the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Churches will illustrate the richness and vitality of the various Orthodox Churches. The criteria employed are those of historic prominence and relevance today. The combination of these two elements reduces considerably the number of decrees which may be chosen, but still allows one to indicate individual and unique characteristics of each type of synod.
