abstract:
This contribution provides an in-depth analysis of part of the data collected during a broader questionnaire survey on well-being and distress at school (Zini and Scipione, 2024), conducted in 2024 at a secondary school in a metropolitan city in northern Italy. The survey tool was developed through a participatory process involving students, teachers, and external researchers. The construction of the tool was based on a previous version developed by a group of students and took into account both models available in the research literature and the results of an exploratory survey conducted through focus groups. In particular, the study focuses on the theme of assessment, as perceived by boys and girls as a factor contributing to their sense of well-being and discomfort in the school context. The contribution presents and discusses the students' multiple points of view, starting from the analysis of data collected through structured questions, in dialogue with the results of the open-ended questions in which they were invited to share additional comments.
