Abstract:
To evaluate efficacy and safety of CB1 agonist (nabilone) in reducing pain and frequency of headache, the number of analgesic intake and in increasing the quality of life of patients with long-standing intractable MOH.
Nabilone, a cannabinoid 1-receptor agonist would appear beneficial for patients suffering from MOH, primarily in reducing the intensity of pain and analgesic intake. Side effects were infrequent, of mild intensity and disappeared after discontinuation of the treatment. This is the first randomised, controlled, trial in which nabilone appeared to be safe, although larger-scale studies are required to confirm and identify the optimum treatment for these patients with intractable headache.
