Since October 2020 Barbara Reggiani is Associate Professor of Manufacturing and Processes Systems at the Department of Sciences and Methods for Engineering (DISMI) of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. Since 2017 she is the responsible of the course of Manufacturing Technology for the Degree in Management Engineering.
Since 2008 to today the main research topics have concerned:
• Analysis and optimization of the extrusion process of light and ultralight alloys (experimental, numerical and analytical prediction of process’ defects and of microstructure evolution; advanced modeling of the process and validation through experimental campaigns; monitoring and numerical-experimental evaluation of the cooling in conformal and non-conformal channels; numerical-experimental analysis of the tools die life; development of dedicated material and component’s characterization tests; benchmarking of FEM codes for process modeling; manufacturing of tools’ inserts with conformal cooling channels by means of the SLM technology; investigation of anti-wear multi-layer coatings for extrusion dies).
• Investigation of surface treatments on highly stressed components with the aim to increase the in-service fatigue and tribological performances (numerical-experimental analysis of cold and warm rolling, laser hardening, shot peening, laser texturing; Investigation on the optimal combination of the different treatments).
• Numerical and experimental investigation on the use of supersonic nozzles in laser cutting.
• Multi-objective optimization of processes and components.
From 2003 to 2007 she worked on:
• Development of analytical and numerical models for the prediction of the fatigue life of components
• Biomechanics: numerical modeling of prosthetic systems for the evaluation of in-vivo performances.
She is author of a number of published international contributions on peer-reviewed journals ad cooperates with national/international companies and research institutes
