Gianluca Marchi, born in Modena (05/02/1964), is Full Professor of Business Management at University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE).

His research interests centre on Innovation and Internationalization topics.
Innovation
- user innovation in virtual communities (motorcycling, mobile phones);
- product innovation and technological discontinuities in industry evolution; catching-up and leadership changes (mobile phone);
- knowledge management and product innovation; creativity and knowledge intermediaries (fashion industry, cooking industry);
- new ventures and start up growth; academic sipn offs;
- University-Industry collaborative linkages;
- technology acceptance model (autonomous driving);
- innovation in distribution channels: e-commerce, omnichannelty.
Internationalization
- cross-border alliances; alliance governance mechanisms in emerging countries (tile industry, food, fashion, China);
- country of origin effect on professional buyer and consumer behavior.
He has developed also studies about the retail sector, disaster management and industrial clisters.
He has published four books and more than 70 conceptual and empirical papers (see Publications list) in international and national journals, including Research Policy, Journal of Business Research, European Management Review, Technovation, European Journal of Marketing, International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behavior and Research, Business History, International Studies of Management and Organization, International Review of Retail, Distribution and Consumer Research.

2020: Best Case Award at III Triple Helix Summit 2020, Bologna, 24-26 November for the paper “TPM ‘Mario Veronesi’, an example of successful high specialized technology park for growth and resilience of a regional innovation ecosystems on biomedical field”, with Laura Aldrovandi annd Bernardo Balboni.
2017: Best Paper Award of the Sinergie-Sima Conference, Napoli, 15-16 June 2017, for the paper “Academic spin-offs' team heterogeneity: an exploratory analysis on growth performance”, with Giulia Tagliazucchi and Bernardo Balboni.
Teaching experience
Since 1997 he has taught many BA and Master courses (UNIMORE) on marketing and strategy topics.
He is currently teaching Strategy and Innovation (in the English-taught Master degree course of International Management) at Unimore; Economia e gestione delle imprese (in the BA of Mediazione Linguistica) at Fondazione UniverMantova.
He taught also in various Doctoral Courses and University Masters, in Italy and abroad.
Third Mission projects (with grants)
He is Project manager of the Contamination Lab of UNIMORE. The Contamination Lab has been funded by MIUR for the years 2018-2020.
