CALARESU Emilia Maria

Emilia Calaresu is Associate professor at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, where she teaches General & Applied Linguistics, and Pragmatics.
She graduated in Languages and Literatures at the University of Florence and attended postgraduate courses in Applied Linguistics and Language teaching at the University of Pisa. In 1994 she won admission with scholarship to the PhD programme in Linguistics at the University of Pavia, where she got her PhD with a research on reporting speech in spoken interactions, under the direction of the late prof. Maria-Elisabeth Conte.
Her research interests and publications spread through many variously interrelated areas: 1) Pragmatics, Text linguistics, Discourse Analysis and Interactional Linguistics, with special attention to poliphony and reporting speech, dialogism and dialogically emergent grammar, spoken vs written language (standard and non-standard varieties);
2) Sociology of language and Language policy problems, with special attention to: a) plurilingualism and monolingualism in national and international scientific communication, b) standardization and conflictual relations between minor regional languages and national ones;
3) Applied linguistics and language teaching, with special interest on metalinguistic awareness and grammar reflection in educational contexts, and with particular regard to the initial and the final stages of the entire educational route (primary school and university courses).
She has partecipated through the years to several research projects, as an active member of national and international research teams.
She is currently member, among the others, of the research team GRASS (Grammar Reflection at School, https://grass.projects.unibz.it/) coordinated by Silvia Dal Negro, Free University of Bolzano; and of the S2G team (From Speaking to Grammar, web site under construction) coordinated by Miriam Voghera, University of Salerno.
