RESEARCH INTERESTS: The scientific activity of Luigi Rovati was characterized by several stages all dedicated to the study, development, and characterization of innovative measurement instruments mainly devoted to biomedical applications. His activity includes theoretical aspects related to the detection of weak signals and analog processing to minimize the measurement uncertainty, and experimental aspects regarding the implementation of systems for the metrological characterization of devices developed. Good knowledge gained on electronic and optoelectronic technologies is implicit in these activities, with particular attention to biomedical applications.
The research of Prof. Rovati has led to many results of significant quality and originality; for example: (i) for the first time has been demonstrated the possibility to measure in-vivo the light scattering properties of the tissues in the posterior segment of the eye by means of a measuring instrument designed and realized by the applicant (1993-1996), (ii) Luigi Rovati has designed and demonstrated the feasibility of an optical sensor for non-invasive measurements of blood glucose level in diabetic patients (2002-2006), (iii) the applicant has designed and developed an innovative measurement system for measuring the gas Radon concentration (2008-2012), (iv) a new optoelectronic device for Hyperspectral for Human Iris Imaging has been developed (2014-2018) and (v) the PI developed a measuring instrument for in-line and real-time measurement of blood-pH and pCO2 in extracorporeal-circulation (2017-2022).
ACHIEVEMENT OF AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS
2017: IEEE Certificate of Appreciation for the exceptional contribution to the organization of RTSI 2017.
2007: NASA Certificate of Recognition for the research carried out in collaboration with the Glenn Research Center (NASA) in Cleveland. The work was focused on the study of a measuring system for non-invasive blood glucose determination designed to be used in space environments.
