Curriculum Vitae
Cinzia Bianchi is Associate Professor in Philosophy and Theory of Languages (PHIL/04b) at University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore), Department of Communication and Economics, where she teaches courses on Semiotics, Advertising and Textual theory. She is current Director of the courses on “Communication Science” (degree level) and “Advertising, Digital Communication and Creative Business Processes” (master degree level). Bianchi is also member of the Digital Humanities Research Centre of Unimore (DHMoRe) and member of the Editorial Board of the online journal: Ocula. Semiotic Eye on Media (www.ocula.it), of which she was twice Editor in Chief (from 2009 to 2011 and from 2017 to 2020).
After a degree (1990) and a Ph.D. in Semiotics (1994-1997) under the supervision of Umberto Eco at the University of Bologna, she carried on her studies thanks to several academic appointments:
-research fellowships (Univ. di Toronto, “McLuhan-Eco Fellowships”, 1992);
-post-doctoral fellowship (Univ. of Bologna, 1997-1999);
-grant for research and teaching (I.UL.M University, Milan, 2000-2001)
-research fellowships (I.UL.M University, Milan, 2001-2005)
In 2005, she became Assistant Professor (“ricercatrice”, life-tenure appointment) at the University of Milan, Political Science, and in 2008 she transferred to Department of Communication and Economics (Unimore).
In 2019, she became Associate Professor at the University of Modena e Reggio Emilia.
Bianchi's semiotic interests have resulted in three aspects of her research: the first focused on theoretical and speculative aspects of semiotic theory, evidenced by the publications dedicated to Ferruccio Rossi-Landi and Umberto Eco; the second focused on the analysis of various manifestations of mass culture (in particular advertising, but also television, fashion, politics, cinema); and the last one dedicated to the methodologies of textual analyses, new forms of digital communication and textuality on line.
