Curriculum Vitae
Sara Mantovani has been an Associate Professor in the field of Machine Design and Mechanical Systems (ING/IND-14) at the "Enzo Ferrari" Department of Engineering (DIEF) since December 2021.
Since December 2018, she has served as the scientific coordinator of MilleChili, an academic laboratory operating in the field of automotive chassis design, optimization, and innovation. The laboratory was founded in 2009 by the Machine Design research group together with Ferrari S.p.A., with the aim of effectively connecting and transferring technology and know-how from the research environment to the industrial sector.
Her specific research areas focus on the development of virtual models for:
- the analysis of impact phenomena;
- the optimization of component design;
- the analysis and prevention of failure and damage in mechanical components.
She has participated in:
- the PNRR-funded MOST Center, Spoke 13, dedicated to innovation in electric propulsion systems and batteries, implementing lightweight and structurally efficient solutions integrated into vehicle architecture and suspension systems;
- the project Green Optimization by Additive-manufacturing Lightweight Structures, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) under PRIN 2022. The consortium included the University of Padua, the University of Messina, and the University of Bologna;
- the European project MSCA-RISE-2019 – Research and Innovation Staff Exchange OWHEEL, during which she developed tools to improve driving dynamics and passenger comfort through innovative suspension layouts and wheel assemblies, including for autonomous vehicles. The consortium nvolved 14 partners, including 7 universities and 5 companies based in Europe, the University of Tokyo (Japan), and the University of Pretoria (South Africa).
