GHETTO - Guarded Histories: Echoes from The Threshold of Otherness in Emilia-Romagna region

GHETTO proposes a research initiative with the State Archives of Ferrara and Modena, based on an existingpartnership, to map and analyze archival materials related to the creation, organization, and daily life of the EsteJewish ghettos and the families who lived there. Among other things, the project will focus on identifying archivalseries relating to property registers, administrative regulations, household inventories and demographic data, with the aim of reconstructing the physical, cultural, and social fabric of the ghetto and its transformations overtime. The project will combine documentation from the State Archives of Ferrara and Modena, as well as fromlocal archives (i.e. the diocesan and Inquisitorial archives) where complementary testimonies on Jewishcommunities are preserved. By integrating these sources, GHETTO aims to offer a first overview of thedocuments relating to the ghettos of Este State, with a digitisation of the most relevant archival series throughlodovico.medialibrary.it.
