Le CELAM au Concile Vatican II

This contribution aims to focus on the role played by the Latin American Bishops' Council (CELAM) at the Second Vatican Council. Thanks to the practice of exchange and joint work initiated by CELAM in the second half of the fifties, the Latin American episcopate can rely in Rome on an unique instrument. Early reflections on the religious and social problems of the continent find actually new lymph at Vatican II, new theological horizons, and new resonance chests, while the reflection on episcopal collegiality gradually drives CELAM into a different awareness of its ecclesial significance.
