PEDRAZZI Simone

Simone Pedrazzi is an Associate Professor at the “Enzo Ferrari” Department of Engineering of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE), where he teaches Energy Sustainability and Renewable Energy Sources, as well as Engineering Physics, in the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Civil and Environmental Engineering.

His research activity focuses on biomass thermochemical conversion, with specific expertise in the modelling and experimental analysis of gasification and pyrolysis processes, as well as in the study of advanced cogeneration systems. His research has contributed to the integration of bioenergy into the management of water resources, riverbeds, and greenhouse climate control systems.

He has authored 136 scientific publications, with more than 1,600 citations and an h-index of 25 (Scopus, 2026). The impact of his research is further supported by three granted patents, two of which are international PCT patents, concerning gasification reactors and syngas purification systems, as well as several patent applications for the use of char as a fertilizer or thermal insulation material.

Professor Pedrazzi has coordinated and participated in major projects related to the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and the ecological transition, including VALBIOCOMB (NEST) and ECOSISTER. He served as Principal Investigator for the CHAR RIMEDIO project and is the Scientific Coordinator of VINE LEAF FOR LIFE. He has also contributed to international programmes such as INTERREG V ALCOTRA CBET.

He is a member of the PhD Faculty Board of the PhD Programme in Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering and has co-supervised 28 undergraduate theses. Alongside his academic career, he has gained experience in technology transfer as the founder of the university spin-off Syn-GAS Srls. He is a member of ATI and FTI and serves as a reviewer for international journals, including Applied Energy and Energy.
