Simone Pedrazzi is an Associate Professor at the Department of Engineering “Enzo Ferrari” of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE). He teaches Energy Sustainability and Renewable Sources, Technical Physics, and Automotive Thermal Control. His research focuses on biomass thermoconversion, with specific expertise in the modeling and experimental analysis of gasification and pyrolysis processes and advanced cogeneration systems. His work has significantly contributed to bio-energy integration in water resource management, river bed maintenance, and greenhouse climate control.
He has authored 136 scientific publications with over 1,600 citations and an h-index of 25 (Scopus, 2026). His research impact is highlighted by three granted patents (including two international PCT) on gasification reactors and syngas purification, alongside applications for using char as a fertilizer or thermal insulator.
Professor Pedrazzi coordinates and participates in major PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) and ecological transition projects, such as VALBIOCOMB (NEST) and ECOSISTER. He is the Principal Investigator for the CHAR RIMEDIO project and the scientific lead for VINE LEAF FOR LIFE, while collaborating on international programs like INTERREG V ALCOTRA CBET.
A member of the Ph.D. board in Industrial and Territorial Engineering, he has co-supervised 28 degree theses. He bridges academia and industry as the founder of the start-up Syn-GAS Srls and as a licensed professional engineer. He is a member of the Italian Thermotechnical Association (ATI) and the Italian Technical Physics association (FTI), and serves as a reviewer for international journals such as Applied Energy and Energy.
